Blog Tour

In this post, I will be taking you on a blog tour so you are aware of all of the resources available to you  here.

We will start our tour at the top left corner of the page.
These links will be here all year and won't typically change (unless I find something needs to be added)

Home: If you are anywhere else on our blog, and you would like to be brought back to the front page with the most recent posts quickly, simply click on the word Home.

About: By clicking the word About, you will be able to read a brief description of our blog.

Contact: If you need to get ahold of me, you can find my email address and phone number here.

Our School: By clicking here, you will be taken to Alpine Elementary's school website.

Skyward: You can check your grades on Skyward. You will need your username and password which I will provide for you within the first couple weeks of school. If you ever misplace your username and password you can come see me at recess or before or after school, email, or call me to obtain it. I will keep your grades as up to date as possible at all times. Please check your grades frequently and make sure I haven't made any mistakes and you aren't missing assignments.

Calendar: I am working on creating a public calendar where you will be able to see upcoming school and class events. I know that at this time it is not working, but hopefully it will be soon.

Big Ideas: Big Ideas are checklists of all of the things you will be learning this year in math, science, language arts, and social studies. When you click on the words Big Ideas you will be taken to a page that looks like this:

There you will be able to click on each subject are and view the checklists. You can either view them online, or print them out.

UTIPS: At the UTIPS site you will find different quizzes throughout the year that I have created for you to take. We will sometimes take them in class, and sometimes they will be assigned as homework. On this site I am able to create my very own questions, or I can use questions that have been on past year end tests. There are some quizzes there from last yearIt still says Barratt Elementary at the top of the page, but rest assured, you have the correct website.

Student Blog: On our student blog you will be able to submit assignments to me by creating a new blog post and typing them instead of writing them out on paper. Most of the time this will be optional, but you will sometimes be assigned to create a new post for the blog (don't worry, I will teach you how to do this if you don't know how already). You will also be able to post about different projects and ideas and your peers can comment on them.

Left Sidebar
On the left sidebar you will find things like links and information that go along with what we are studying and upcoming activities. These links will change throughout the year.

Polls: There will typically be a poll up on our blog that you can vote in. Some of these polls will be just for fun, some will help make class decisions, and others will inform me anonymously how the class feels about particular topics. Usually you will only be able to pick one answer, but sometimes you might be able to pick more. Here is what our current poll looks like:
Go ahead and take our back to school poll!
Links: There will be links to games and other online resources to help you study and complete projects. Our first social studies unit will be on world geography so right now you will find different links for online world geography resources. It will look like this:

In class we will be learning how to create our own blog posts, how to add comments to a blog post, how to use proper blogging/commenting etiquette, and much more (you will even be able to help your parents use our blog, too). If you have any questions on our blog tour please feel free to leave a comment (if you know how), email me, or ask me during class.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Call

Welcome!

Welcome to the sixth grade! My name is Mrs. Call and I am thrilled to have you in my class. Let me tell you a little bit about what you can expect from sixth grade. This year, you will be learning all about ancient history in social studies, the solar system and energy in science, writing and comprehension strategies in language arts, and you will even be doing some algebra in math! Our class will also be doing a lot of fun things with the rest of the sixth grade like The Pillow Concert, Tournament of Knights, The Space Center, Valentines Dance, and more!

I wanted to introduce myself so you can get to know a little bit about me. This is my fourth year teaching sixth grade and I love it. You might remember me from when I taught at Alpine when you were in 3rd grade. The other two years I taught at Barratt Elementary in American Fork. I enjoy teaching, traveling, riding my bike, reading, and doing crafts. If you have any questions for me, feel free to leave a comment and check back later for the answer!

Here is a picture of my husband and I exploring Ketchican, Alaska this summer.

I am really looking forward to the coming year and all of the fun things we have in store!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Call
